The device can be made your own with games, apps and custom settings. The performance of the phone can also be optimized with the personalized shortcuts, widgets and search boxes.

Almost every Android Smartphone is different because of different screen sizes, different hardware and different manufacturers. The tips and tricks mentioned below will work practically on all Android phones and help you to get the most out of your phone.

Synchronize your phone with Google

When you first set up your phone, make sure you enter all your Google Account information to get the most out of your new phone.  After completing this, all your Google services like Gmail, Talk, Voice and Calendar will be synchronized automatically.

To use the native Google applications, follow the instructions given below to set up your Google Account.  Instructions given below are for the devices with Android 4.2 or higher.  If your device is with  different version of Android, instruction may vary slightly.

Touch the Settings > Add account > Google to add your Google Apps account.

Select > Existing > enter your full Google Apps email address as your username and password.  If you do not have a Gmail account, set up a new Gmail account by pressing the New button.

Google Play Store app

images[1]Google Play Service is used to Update and install new apps on  your phone  from the Google Play    store.  Google Play store is a platform of digital distribution for the applications and also an online digital media and electronics store, which is operated by Google. The Services allow the Android phone user to browse and download the applications.  Applications either free of charge or at a cost.

Follow these simple steps to install app on your Android device.

  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play Store app.
  2. Browse through the store and select the app you want to download.
  3. Touch the install button or on the app’s price.
  4. Click on the Accept after reviewing the permission of the app.
  5. If you have chosen a paid app, then use the Down arrow to choose the payment mode and complete your purchase.

Create a shortcut to your favorite contact

To add the contact’s shortcut on your home screen, press and hold he empty space on your screen.  You will see a pop up menu.

Then select Shortcuts > Contact.  You can scroll through the contact list and tap the person’s name you want to add.

This is a speed direct dial icon which allows you to dial any contact of your specification with just one tap on the screen.

Search with your voice command

search-with-your-voice[1]Google allows you to search the web through your voice commands. Tap on the microphone icon, next to the search bar and your search can be recorded by giving simple voice commands.  It is incredibly accurate. Most of the voice tips are available in French, English, Italian, German, Japanese, Russia, Spanish, Brazilian and Portuguese.

To see the tips on the screen of the Google Now, say “Ok Google”, then “Help”.

Some of the features of searching with voice command are listed below:

  • Play Music – You can listen to the music already on the Google Play Music app.
  • Play a Radio station – Play a Radio station in Google Play Music.
  • Watch a Movie – Play a movie you already have on Google Play.
  • Read a Book – Read a Book what you already have on Google Play.

Open your phone to non-market apps

Most of the Android phones will give you option to allow open-your-phone-to-non-market-apps[1]non-market apps download on your device.   This means that, third-party software like Amazon’s app store or apps can be downloaded.

To enable this feature

  • Go to settings > Applications settings   and check the box next to Unknown Sources.
  • But you have to be careful while downloading apps from the unknown source can harm your phone with malicious software.
