As the Yellow Brigade begin their campaign, 8 days from now, in Abu Dhabi, they would like to come back to winning ways and capture the IPL crown as they normally have the habit of becoming champions. Yes, last time they did lose the final to Mumbai Indians ,but , then again, “Everyday is not a Sunday.” Dhoni’s men were looking as if they were mentally unprepared for the big match. The controversies surrounded him and his team’s owner, and I think that was main reason for CSK’s debacle in the final game. But if they put that haunting memories away, I don’t think they will face any obstacle in winning the crown for the 3rd time!
Batsmen: – Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Smith, Suresh Raina, Mithun Manhas, Faf du Plessis, Baba Aparijith
Bowlers: – Ben Hilfenhaus, Mohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Samuel Badree, Ishwar Pandey, Ronit More, Matt Henry, Ashish Nehra
All-Rounders:- Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, John Hastings, Vijay Shankar, Pawan Negi
Wicket-Keeper/Captain: – MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni: – Whenever you notice his name in a team, he automatically becomes the player to watch out for. That is the importance of captain cool MS Dhoni! The best thing about him is that he can adapt to any situation. From the overs 1-20, he can come anytime and take the game away from the opponent. Even when he is not batting, he is a game changer behind the wickets as his cool and composed mind keeps working on throughout the innings. Dhoni has made it a point to win those small moments which become so crucial in a T20 encounter. That’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni!
Dwayne Bravo: – Well the kind of form he is in, it clearly gives the message to the opponents that he can change the whole complexion of the game within 2 or 3 overs. If he stays till the death overs, he can bludgeon any delivery from any bowler and thus disturb his line and lengths easily. He is as dangerous with the ball in his hand as he is with the bat. He is a perfectionist in subtle art of bringing variations in his bowling which makes his 24 balls very crucial in the game, both for CSK and the oppositions!
Ravichandran Ashwin: -MS Dhoni uses his spinners well and with Ashwin, as always, in the squad, he becomes an important bowler. He can contain the run rates in his allotted overs and bring the momentum in favour of Super Kings. Under spinning conditions, he may be allowed to bowl with Samuel Badree, who is a new inclusion in the squad, and this will really expose the batsman’s vulnerability against spin bowling.
Ravindra Jadeja: -He is a slow left arm bowler who bowls out his overs so quickly that the batsman doesn’t get time to form a strategy against him. He is a left handed batsman who comes down the batting order and always succeeds in scoring some handy runs at the end. He is a sharp fielder who fields inside the 30 yard circle and saves around 10 runs for his team in every match. He is the one and only-Ravindra Jadeja. The name is enough for his further description!
The New Kid on the Block
Ishwar Pandey: – A 24 year old guy from Madhya Pradesh by the name of Ishwar Pandey is all set to play in Chennai colours and I think this is a golden opportunity for him to prove his talent. He had been given a maiden call-up for the New Zealand tour but, unfortunately, wasn’t selected for the playing eleven. Last year it was Mohit Sharma who impressed, playing for CSK, and then went on to play for Team India. So this year, the tall right arm fast bowler will surely look to showcase his capabilities and, hopefully, earn a place in the Indian playing eleven.
What to Expect
This team comprises of hard hitters, superb fielders and a calm and composed Captain. But still I think, the bowling, barring Ashwin and Badree, is not up to the level as expected. Ben Hilfenhaus may be a frontline bowler but he hasn’t recently got much exposure to international level. However, their batting has been strengthened by the inclusion of, Kiwi striker, Brendon McCullum who will most probably open the batting. If their batsmen serve to their best, then I think CSK will once again dominate the table, become the IPL champions and have their glory days back!
