IPL Team Preview: Sunrisers Hyderabad

When this team made their way into the IPL for the first time, nobody thought that it would have a successful campaign, particularly because much hype was not created about this team which was not the case with the other IPL teams. But Sunrisers Hyderabad made their start a dream one as they finished in top 4 and qualified for the playoffs but couldn’t prevail further as they lost to Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator. This time, the Sunrisers are a bigger and a better team altogether and are looking as one of the dangerous teams in the competition.  This year has seen this team from IPL  go through a sea of changes. A new management, some new players will, hopefully, provide this team with the much needed impetus to kick off their IPL journey on the right track.

The Squad

The Game Changers

Will he fire?

Will he fire?

Shikhar Dhawan: Well he is not quite in that form these days but he will look to start afresh as he takes on the Sunrisers’ jersey. When he has his day, there is no respite for the bowlers and can take the game away from his opponent single-handedly. To be a Captain too, there will be much pressure on his batting but he has to brave all that and play his natural game if he wants to lead from the front. He is surely the man to watch out for!

Darren Sammy: He is that kind of a batsman who will suddenly come, battle and then successfully conquer the bowlers. He plays with a horizontal bat for striking the ball and uses it to complete perfection. We saw his intriguing form in the recently concluded T20 world cup which he would like to move forward with it in the upcoming IPL. He can change the tide of the game in the final 2-3 overs and that’s why he is one of the Game Changers for his team!

Dale Steyn: Whenever you find that, at any particular stage of the game, you need to contain the run rate or take a wicket or two; your eyes always tend to fall over to just one man- Dale Steyn! He will do everything that can cause trouble to the batsman. He will bowl you out swingers, reverse swing, Yorkers and furious bouncers. He is not the world no.1 in test cricket for no reason. Last year, he made a significant impact for his team and this year he would also like to do the same.

The Dark Horse

Ishant Sharma: Yes, you have got it correct! Ishant Sharma had said that he was bowling well, together with Dale Steyn. He did perform well in the IPL but for the last few months, he has become suitable for the above title. He can come to bowl at any time mostly in crucial situations and sometimes can take the game away from the opponent- like he did against England in Champions Trophy final- or sometimes can also take the game away from his team- like he did against, rather for, Faulkner in the one day series. So he is a man who can be a dangerous one for both the sides.

The New Kid on the Block

Parvez Rasool: The 25 year old all rounder from Kashmir would like to make his opportunity, playing for Sunrisers, count in the best manner. The last year, he played just two matches for Pune warriors. He also got a maiden call up for playing for India, for Zimbabwe tour, but didn’t play a single match. He has also performed well in this season’s Ranji Trophy, both with the bat and the ball, and on some occasions has been the tragic hero for Jammu and Kashmir team as his rescue act wasn’t converted into a victory. This time, he would like to make a significant impact for the Sunrisers and earn a place in the national team, yet again!

What to Expect

This team is brilliant in bowling, which also includes Amit Mishra and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. Its batting was not up to the mark in last year’s IPL but this time they have got two Australian stalwarts in the form of Aaron Finch and David Warner. It’s less likely that both of them will play but it will surely give them strong momentum at the start. As I again say, this team is far better and a bigger team than the last one and they will be hoping for a better finish this IPL- probably tasting the IPL crown for the very 1st time!

Batting: 8/10

Bowling: 9/10
