Dhoom Punjabi, Punjabi Dhoom Punjabi……..!
That is the song which you will hear every time King’s XI Punjab players clobber the bowlers all around the park. That is the song which is at present reverberating all over India as this team has made a habit of steamrolling the opponents. The Red Brigade was battered and bruised in the previous editions, barring the 1st one, and it also had an effect on their beautiful team owner, Preity Zinta. But now, things have changed for them dramatically.
The reason why Kings XI Punjab is unstoppable in this IPL is that they are a strong team unit. By “unit”, I say that they are not dependent on just one player.
Virender Sehwag has become successful in striking form after his well made half century against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He has been blazing from the word “Go” and easily signalling the intent of the Red Brigade. As this team moves into the playoff stages(they have almost made it through) his value will increase more and more as he is a performer for big matches which makes his batting a joy to watch.
IPL 2013 was mainly known for Gayle Storm. Christopher Gayle hasn’t been in that touch now but the job of entertaining the fans, this year, has been fulfilled by none other than Glenn Maxwell. He just knows one style of playing- attack, attack and attack! He comes and goes but what he leaves behind is the storm which is difficult to digest for the opponent team, more importantly the bowlers. The Big Show, as he is popularly called in Australia, doesn’t need time to get settled and recognize the pace of the pitch because the moment he comes to the crease, the whole crowd brace themselves to take a catch.
If this team has someone who keeps on attacking the bowlers, no matter what the situation is, it also has a batsman who anchors the innings and acts like a finisher at the end. It’s Killer Miller who has been contributing well in Punjab’s victories. If Maxwell is an unorthodox striker of the ball, Miller is a classic striker. The South African makes tough shots look easy and shows that a T20 game can be won by keeping calm and playing shots which are in the cricket book.
Before the start of the play, the hype of Mitchell Johnson spearheading the bowling department was on in full flow. But somehow, the Australian Speedstar has not made an impact in this IPL and has amazingly been overshadowed by a 20 year old Sandeep Sharma. He has been a huge bonus for the team as he has constantly been in the wickets column. Punjab is known for its batting, but this guy has stolen the limelight and contributed in his team’s victories by taking crucial wickets.
Players like Wriddhiman Saha are also showing their intent by attacking in full fledge which the team has done so consistently. It is the positive attitude of the team which has brought them so far in this league and they have set a great example to show why offense is the best defence.
So this is a team full of match winners. If one fails, the other comes and makes the team rise from the ashes. If everything goes well for King’s XI Punjab, there will surely be no surprises if George Bailey and Co. taste the IPL crown for the 1st time and take Jadoo ki Jhappis from Preity Zinta!
