Swashbuckling English batsman Kevin Pietersen was overlooked by ECB while selecting their squads for the upcoming tour of West Indies followed by World Twenty20 Championships in Bangladesh later this summer.
The 33 year old highly rated English batsman was left disappointed by the board’s decision after he was omitted. The hard hitting right handed batsman, who made the reverse sweep all the more fashionable, is set to retire from all forms of cricket as the highest run getter for his nation.
The shocking decision came from ECB on the back of their disastrous 0-5 clean sweep against Australia in the recently concluded Ashes series. The board were desperate to make a statement to the squad, so to underline the fact that nobody’s place is guaranteed in the side.
However, former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has backed all franchisees to jump at the opportunity of having Pietersen available for the entire IPL season. The Delhi Daredevils hard hitter, who also represented Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers, is set to attract high bids this year during the auction.
Modi went onto claim that Pietersen can earn upto £3m every year given he would be available for the entire season.
