Love and secret marriages in Bollywood have a long history. The most recent kids to register their names in the long list of “Hush-Hush Marriage” are the quintessential Rani Mukherjee and the reigning king of Yash Raj Films, Aditya Chopra. The loved birds tied their knot allegedly in a typical Bong way, away from the hustle and bustle of India in an Italian countryside on Monday, 21st April 2014.
According to the statement released by Yash Raj Films their wedding was a “small and intimate affair”.
“We are happy to announce that Mr. Aditya Chopra and Ms. Rani Mukherji got married last night on 21st April in Italy. The wedding was a very small intimate affair with very close family and friends,” is what the official Press Release read.
Though Rani Mukherjee never openly admitted her relationship with Aditya Chopra, but the actress was always spotted along with the Chopra family, both in times of celebration and sorrow. The new bride issued a statement thanking all her fans and well-wishers for the blessings. Rani Mukherjee, 36, went ahead to say that her marriage to the 42 year old filmmaker was the furtherance of a “fairy tale”.
In an exclusive statement, Rani said, “I would like to share the happiest day of my life with all my fans all over the world whose love and blessings have been part of my journey all these years. I know that all my well-wishers who have waited for this day will be really happy for me. It was a beautiful wedding in the Italian countryside with just a few of our close family and friends with us.”
She further added, “The one person I missed terribly was Yash Uncle, but I know he was there with us in spirit and his love and blessings will always be with Adi and me. I have always believed in fairy-tales and with God’s grace my life has been exactly like one, and now as I enter the most important chapter of my life – the fairy-tale continues.”
It is truly disheartening to see the famous Bollywood couples getting hitched secretly when we Indians love to celebrate our marriages with complete pomp and show. Aditya Chopra is acclaimed for his secretive demeanor, and keeping media away from his marriage was somewhat expected from the couple but when it comes to keeping their marriage celebration behind the iron curtains our very own Bindaas Bollywood Diva Kareena Kapoor cannot be left far behind. The merry-making went on behind the closed doors, while media kept drooling outside for even the pettiest piece of information. John Abraham – the Bollywood hunk, also banished media from covering the news of his marriage with his alleged girlfriend Priya Runchal at a private ceremony held in Los Angeles.
Well, secret marriages are not new to the world of Hindi Film Industry. It has been trending from yester years. Whether it is the very famous and controversial marriage of Dharmendra and Hema Malini or Saif Ali Khan marrying 12 years older actress Amrita Singh, our stars know it well how to keep the news of their marriage under the wraps. Talking about secret marriages and not mentioning the very bubbly and ravishing Juhi Chawla will be a crime. The actress got married to industrialist Jay Mehta in 1997 and it was probably one of the best-kept marriage secrets ever because the news was disclosed to her fans and media only after she got pregnant with her first child.
As the story continues, we can only expect a little show of gratitude from the stars whom we love and adore. After all where would they ever be if fans wouldn’t have showered their unrelenting love and respect to them? Keeping us away from the greatest moments of their lives is not something that we deserve in return of our love.
