‘Jai Ho’ was a song that created high tides at the Oscars. ‘Jai Ho’ the movie starring Salman Khan hasn’t created that much of a buzz at the box office. Like the actor, the movie is struggling hard to keep its face up with the mountain of a competition from mega hits like Dhoom 3 and Chennai Express. While the other two Khans have had their share of success, Salman Khan crawls far behind them with ‘Jai Ho’.
‘Jai Ho’ has made a fortune of 100 crores worldwide after its release on 24th January. Although the movie has done well at the box office, Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 has done far better.
With the hit movie formula being reused with action packed over illustrated action sequences, gittery song sequences where the hero woos his ladies and Salman Khan in the lead, the movie is a success. With a budget of 75crores with which ‘Jai Ho’ has been made, no expects the movie to be a worthy competition either to Dhoom 3 or to Chennai Express.
The buzz created by Salman’s previous blockbusters which include Ek Tha Tiger, Bodyguard and the Dabangg films is lacking in ‘Jai Ho’. With a collection of 17crores in the first day of its release, ‘Jai Ho’ falls behind ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ which has been reported to have had collected 30crores in the first day.
Pundits point out that Jai Ho’s collection could have been much better if Salman had adopted a better marketing and promotion strategy. Also as most reviews failed to identify ‘Jai Ho’ as a must see movie, a portion of the profits was diverted.
Salman Khan has got to create something out of the box if he wants to get back into the race.
